Questions
Answers about the paper, the frames, the delivery and the money. If yours is missing, write to hello@kommonobjects.com. A person reads it, usually the same day.
The print itself
What am I buying?
A pigment print on enhanced matte 200g paper, made to order at a specialist lab in the EU and posted to you. Nothing is held in stock. Each print is made after you order it, so dispatch takes two to three working days.
What does “enhanced matte” mean?
A smooth, non-reflective coated surface that takes fine detail without glare. The sheet weighs 200 grams per square metre, about a third more than poster paper, and lies flat once it has settled. It is the paper we use for every print in the Archive.
Where are they printed?
In the EU, at a lab that makes prints to order for many studios and can produce at more than one European site. Whatever the route, the price you paid is the price: there is nothing to pay on arrival, and if a carrier ever asked you for duty we would refund it.
Why a specialist lab and not a local printer?
We needed one print at a time, on this paper, in every size in the Archive, framed in the same building and packed to survive a courier. The lab we chose has done exactly that for years. The cost is a few days in transit, and we think the print is worth them. The reasons are on the Our story page.
Will it look like the picture on the screen?
Close, not identical. A screen emits light and paper reflects it, so deep blacks read a little softer on paper and very saturated colours sit calmer. A matte surface holds detail and never glares, and it will never look as bright as a backlit screen.
Why do the sizes differ from print to print?
The sizes follow the artwork. A tall Japanese woodblock and a square Klimt do not fit the same rectangle without cropping, so each work is offered in the formats its own proportions allow. There are no custom sizes.
How do I know what fits my wall?
Use Your wall, to scale. It draws the print against a three-metre wall and a two-metre sofa at true scale.
Is there a border around the image?
No. The image runs to the edge of the paper, and framed prints have no mount.
Framed or not
What are the options?
No frame, black, oak or white. The framed price is the same in all three colours.
What is the frame like?
A box frame with a 20 mm face and 33 mm depth, glazed, with the print running to the edge of the opening and no mount. It arrives assembled and ready to hang.
And if I order it unframed?
The print alone, rolled. Not every size matches a ready-made frame; where one does not, a framer will make one to size.
Will an unframed print arrive curled?
Yes, slightly. It travels rolled. Lay it flat under a few books for a day and it settles.
Getting it to you
Where do you ship?
Anywhere in the European Union except Cyprus, Malta, the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla. The first two cost more to reach than most of what we sell. The other three sit outside the EU VAT area, so a parcel would arrive with tax and a handling fee to pay, and here the price you see is the price. Write to us from any of them and we can send to an address elsewhere in the EU.
What does delivery cost?
€4,99 for unframed prints and €9,90 for framed. Free on any order over €99. An order containing both is charged the framed rate once. The exact cost is shown at checkout before you confirm.
How long does it take?
Dispatch within two to three working days, then two to five working days in transit to most EU addresses. Four to eight working days in all.
Is there a faster option?
Not one you can buy at checkout. The making cannot be shortened by paying more; only the transit can, and not always. If you need a print by a particular date, write to us before you order and we will tell you whether it is possible.
Can it go to a parcel locker?
Not reliably. A 50 × 70 parcel does not fit most lockers, so orders go to your address.
The parcel arrived crushed.
Photograph it before opening if you can, then email us. We replace it. You do not pay return postage and you do not send the damaged one back; the photograph is enough.
If you change your mind
Can I send it back?
Yes. You have fourteen calendar days from the day the parcel reaches you to withdraw, without giving a reason. Tell us by any clear statement, an email is enough, then return the print within fourteen days of telling us. We refund within fourteen days of the day you tell us, to the same payment method, and may wait until the print is back or you send proof of postage, whichever comes first.
Who pays the return postage?
You do, when you have changed your mind. We pay when the print is damaged, faulty or not as described.
Are made-to-order prints excluded?
No. The law excludes goods made to your own specification, and choosing a size and a frame colour from a list is not that.
What if something is wrong with it later?
Separately from the fourteen days, you have a two-year legal guarantee of conformity. Send a photograph and we replace or refund. The full wording is in the refund policy.
Where the images come from
Whose work is this?
Artists long out of copyright, from open museum collections. Every print in the Archive names its source institution and its year where the museum record gives them. Where the record gives neither, the line stays blank.
These are public domain. Why am I paying?
Not for the image. You could download most of these files yourself. You are paying for the choosing, the preparation of the file for print, the paper, the ink, the frame, the packing and the courier. If the file is what you want, the museums publish it.
Do you sell contemporary artists?
Not yet. The Archive is public-domain work only. Commissioned work from living artists will appear under Collections.
Money
Do you run sales?
No. There is no public discount code, no first-order popup and no seasonal event. From 2027 there may be one public sale window a year.
Then why is there 15% off three prints?
A wall usually wants more than one print, and three is where it starts to look deliberate. Any three prints take 15% off the set, always. It is part of how we price, not a promotion with an end date. If you have a code from us, it replaces the 15% rather than adding to it. Every code we have given is worth more than 15%.
Will a print sell out?
No. Nothing is a limited edition and nothing is held in stock. Each print is made when it is ordered.
Are prices with or without VAT?
Every price on the site is what you pay, VAT included where it applies. Delivery is added at checkout and shown before you confirm. Our registration status is on the legal page.
Who you are writing to
Who is Kommon Objects?
A small studio in Bucharest. We choose the work, have it made at a specialist lab in the EU, and name the source of every image. More on the Our story page.
Can I see the prints somewhere in person?
Not yet. There is no shop or showroom; Kommon Objects exists online, and the prints are made at a lab elsewhere in the EU. If a place to see them ever exists, the mailing list hears first.
How do I reach a person?
Email hello@kommonobjects.com. We answer within one working day.
Trade, wholesale or a portfolio submission?
Same address. Say which in the subject line.
